Chris Taylor is the CEO and President of Marvelous Gardens Inc., a full-service landscape, irrigation, and outdoor living company serving the Crossroads and Coastal Bend regions of Texas. Born and raised in the Six Mile community of Port Lavaca, Chris graduated with honors from Calhoun High School in 2002 and founded Marvelous Gardens just one year later, in 2003.
What began as mowing lawns between college classes and working for a local landscape company — while also working shift work at Formosa Plastics — quickly grew into something much bigger. Chris discovered he loved building relationships with customers and delivering work people could truly take pride in. As demand increased, he hired his first employee, then a few more, steadily expanding services and capabilities.
In 2010, the company began offering full landscape design and installation in addition to maintenance services, a milestone that fueled significant growth. Today, Marvelous Gardens employs up to 40 team members during peak season and operates from its facility on FM 1090, which includes a retail nursery and expanded operations center. Over the years, the business evolved from a home-based startup to a refurbished shop, then an old grain warehouse on Main Street, before reaching its current location.
Chris is a licensed irrigator and remains deeply involved in both client relationships and company strategy. While he appreciates every aspect of the business, his greatest fulfillment comes from meeting clients, building long-term partnerships, and helping team members grow personally and professionally.
Under his leadership, Marvelous Gardens has been voted Best Lawn Care Company in Calhoun County for eight consecutive years, a reflection of the company’s commitment to quality, reliability, and integrity.
Community involvement is a core part of Chris’s mission. He actively supports local businesses and organizations, with a special focus on youth programs. For more than 15 years, he has coached youth sports for children ages 4 through middle school. He is also the founder of the POC Champions Cup, a barbecue cook-off competition that raises funds for local youth organizations.
Chris married his wife, Candace, in April 2008, and together they have five sons: Trenton, Trevor, Treston, Traeson, and Traeton. Outside of work, he enjoys competitive fishing and spending time outdoors — gardening, cooking, hosting family and friends, and relaxing at the family fishing cabin. Above all, he values his roles as a husband and father.
Chris is a Christian and strives to lead both his family and his company by example. He credits perseverance and belief in a larger vision as key drivers of his success, especially during the early years when others doubted his path. Today, he believes what truly separates Marvelous Gardens from other companies is simple: integrity.
Fun Fact: In fifth grade, after being suspended from the school bus for a few days, Chris’s father made him walk to Jackson Elementary from Six Mile — following behind him the entire way — a lesson in accountability he never forgot.
